How long did your 401k to Gold IRA transfer actually take?
- •You know, something tangible.
- •We've got just under $75k in an old 401k from my previous job that we're looking to roll into a Gold IRA.

Okay, so I'm a farmer's wife here in Kansas City, and my husband and I have been talking for ages about getting some of our retirement savings out of the stock market. You know, something tangible. We've got just under $75k in an old 401k from my previous job that we're looking to roll into a Gold IRA. We're thinking primarily gold, maybe a little silver too, since I just feel a lot better about holding something real, especially with all the talk about inflation these days. My dad always said, "paper money is just that – paper."
We've talked to a couple of companies and they all give us these estimates for how long the whole 401k to Gold IRA transfer will take. Some say 2-3 weeks, others are vague and say "a month or so." I'm just wondering what people's real-world experiences have been. Did it actually stick to their timelines?
I'm trying to figure out if it's going to be a quick process or if I should prepare myself for it to drag on for a while. We're not in a huge hurry, but I'd like to have a realistic expectation. For folks who have done a direct rollover from an old 401k to a Gold IRA (or even a Silver IRA), how long did it actually take from start to finish? Was there anything that really sped it up or, more likely, slowed it down?
Any insights from those of you who've been through this would be super helpful. Just want to make sure I'm not caught off guard!
