Finally hit the magic 59 1/2 age and decided to bite the bullet on a partial rollover from my old 401k into a Gold IRA. I've been kicking around the idea for a while, especially with all the talk about inflation and the general craziness of the market lately. As an insurance agent here in Omaha, I see enough people regretting not diversifying early that I really wanted to walk the walk.
I moved about $75k into physical gold through one of the more reputable companies – did a ton of research on fees and storage options before pulling the trigger. The process itself was surprisingly smooth, honestly. The hardest part was just deciding how much of my 401k to allocate. I still have a decent chunk in traditional stocks and bonds, so this wasn't an "all eggs in one basket" move. I'm thinking of it as a hedge, a bit of peace of mind knowing I have some tangible assets outside of the digital realm. It definitely feels good to have some of my wealth in something that's been around for millennia, you know?
My biggest question now is just… what are others doing? For those who've done a similar rollover, how are you feeling about it in the current economic climate? Any regrets or things you wish you'd done differently? I'm curious about the long-term outlook folks here have for gold, especially compared to other alternatives like real estate or even crypto (which I'm still trying to wrap my head around!).
