Got my wife on board with Gold IRA (finally!)

Just wanted to share a small win here. After months of, shall we say, gentle persuasion (read: me sending her articles and trying to explain market volatility over dinner 😂), I finally got my wife convinced about putting a portion of our retirement into a Gold IRA. For context, I’m a government employee here in ABQ, so I’ve got my pension coming, but that’s not going to cut it entirely, and diversifying beyond just the TSP has been a big focus for me, especially lately.
My Gold IRA is still relatively small, around $60k at this point, but it's growing slowly. I started it a few years back as a kind of "just in case" hedge, but the past year really highlighted for me why having some physical assets outside of traditional paper investments is crucial. She was always a bit skeptical, thought it was too complicated, or just too "old school" compared to stocks. Her main hesitation was frankly, just not understanding it and worrying it was some kind of scam given all the ads out there. I kept telling her it's not about making a quick buck, it's about preserving wealth and having a bedrock in turbulent times.
What finally seemed to click for her was when I showed her a historical chart comparing gold's performance during specific periods of high inflation or market crashes versus what our 401k did. We also talked about how it’s a tangible asset, something that holds intrinsic value, unlike some of the more speculative stuff out there. The idea of having a physical asset that isn't tied to any one government’s currency or policies really resonated when I framed it against some of the global instability we've been seeing. I also pulled up a few different reputable custodians and explained how the process works – the storage, the tax benefits, etc. I think seeing the professionalism of some of the bigger gold companies helped allay her fears about it being fly-by-night.
Anyway, she finally agreed last week to allocate another $15k from her old 401k rollover into our collective Gold IRA. Honestly, it feels like a massive relief to have her understand and support this strategy. It’s hard enough planning for retirement without having to constantly justify every move to your partner. Anyone else have similar experiences getting their significant other on board with alternative investments like gold? What arguments or information finally sealed the deal for them?
