Well, this has been quite the ride, hasn't it? Seeing gold absolutely smash through its all-time high is… well, it’s exhilarating! I remember back when I was first looking at getting into a Gold IRA a few years back, everyone was a bit skeptical. My financial advisor even raised an eyebrow, but as Mayor of a small town here in Boise, I’ve always believed in tangible assets and a bit of a hedge against all the uncertainty out there. So, I took the plunge, moving about $75k of my retirement savings into a mix of physical gold and some silver, mostly 1oz American Gold Eagles and Silver Canadian Maples, stored safely in Delaware.
Now, with gold flying past $2300, I'm feeling pretty darn good about that decision. It’s comforting to know that part of my nest egg isn't just numbers on a screen, especially with all the economic chatter these days. But here's the thing – now that it's hit these new heights, I'm starting to wonder what the smart play is. Do I just sit tight and let it ride? Is there a point where it's too high? I’ve seen some folks online talking about rebalancing, but with a Gold IRA, it’s not as straightforward as just selling a stock, you know?
My portfolio is probably sitting around the $90k mark for the precious metals portion now, which is a nice gain. I’m about 15 years out from retirement, and while I’m community-focused and love serving my town, I also want to make sure my family is secure. Are any of you who've been in Gold IRAs for a while making any moves now? Or is this just the beginning of a bigger run? Any thoughts on what to expect, or how you’re managing your own positions after this surge?
It’s always helpful to hear what other folks who are actually in the trenches are thinking. This forum has been a real goldmine (pun intended!) of information for me over the years.
