Been seeing a lot of discussions lately about gold vs. silver percentages, and it got me thinking about my own strategy. For years, I've run pretty heavy on the gold side, probably an 80/20 split with silver being the smaller piece of my precious metals pie. My entire portfolio, excluding real estate, is generally north of $5M, and a significant chunk of that (let's say 20-25%) is in physical precious metals held in a Gold IRA and also at home here in Scottsdale. My general philosophy has always been gold for stability and long-term wealth preservation, silver for its industrial demand and a bit more speculative upside when market conditions align.

Lately, though, with all the supply chain noise and the increasing industrial applications for silver, I've been wrestling with whether to pump up that silver allocation. I'm an entrepreneur at heart, used to taking calculated risks, but also keenly aware of not getting too far over my skis. The sheer volume required to represent the same dollar value in silver compared to gold is always a factor, both in storage (even for my relatively large safes) and in transaction logistics if I ever needed to liquidate a large amount quickly. That said, the potential for a silver squeeze, even a minor one, feels more plausible in the current climate than it has in years.

I'm contemplating shifting to maybe a 70/30 or even a 65/35 split. The idea is to increase my exposure to silver's potential upward momentum without compromising the core stability I rely on from gold. What are others running with these days, especially those with similar portfolio sizes or economic perspectives? Has anyone successfully shifted their allocation more heavily into silver and seen real benefits, or conversely, regretted it?

My Gold IRA provider has been great with the gold side, but I'm curious if folks are seeing similar liquidity and ease of management with larger silver holdings in their retirement accounts. Any thoughts on specific silver products (e.g., Eagles, Maples, bars) that offer the best liquidity for larger allocations? Always appreciate the insights from this community!

This mirrors what I've been seeing too. The macro environment right now is making a strong case for physical metals.

Hey, interesting split! I get the appeal of leaning heavy on gold, especially with its history, but 80/20 feels a bit conservative on the silver side for me personally. Given silver's industrial demand and lower price point, it seems to have more room for explosive growth during certain economic cycles.

While gold is definitely the stability king, I tend to think of silver as having higher upside potential as a "poor man's gold" in a real crisis. Just something to consider if you're looking for different angles!

Hey, interesting split! You mentioned being "pretty heavy on the gold side for years." Was there a specific event or market condition that made you lean so heavily into gold initially, or was it more of a gradual decision?

Oh man, this is super timely. I've been wrestling with this exact question myself! Funny enough, for the longest time I was also running an 80/20 split, almost exactly like yours. But after seeing silver's performance lately, I’ve been seriously considering bumping up my silver allocation. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I'm leaning heavily towards a 70/30 split now. Curious to see what others say here!

Hey, interesting discussion! When you're thinking about that gold-to-silver ratio, have you considered looking at the historical gold/silver ratio chart over different timeframes? Sometimes seeing how those two metals have moved relative to each other in the past can offer some interesting insights for future allocation. There are tons of free charts online if you do a quick search!

Genuinely curious — has anyone here actually tried to liquidate from their gold IRA? How smooth was that process?

I keep going back and forth between gold and silver allocations. The gold-to-silver ratio right now is making silver look attractive.

I was pretty skeptical about another gold IRA forum but the tools here on GIRAB actually surprised me — the calculator alone saved me hours of spreadsheet work.

Ngl I came here expecting the usual affiliate spam but the discussions are actually decent. Way better info than what I was getting from my old advisor.

Been looking into this myself — the fees on some of these custodians are wild. Anyone found one that doesn't gouge you?
