Been seeing a lot of discussions lately about gold vs. silver percentages, and it got me thinking about my own strategy. For years, I've run pretty heavy on the gold side, probably an 80/20 split with silver being the smaller piece of my precious metals pie. My entire portfolio, excluding real estate, is generally north of $5M, and a significant chunk of that (let's say 20-25%) is in physical precious metals held in a Gold IRA and also at home here in Scottsdale. My general philosophy has always been gold for stability and long-term wealth preservation, silver for its industrial demand and a bit more speculative upside when market conditions align.
Lately, though, with all the supply chain noise and the increasing industrial applications for silver, I've been wrestling with whether to pump up that silver allocation. I'm an entrepreneur at heart, used to taking calculated risks, but also keenly aware of not getting too far over my skis. The sheer volume required to represent the same dollar value in silver compared to gold is always a factor, both in storage (even for my relatively large safes) and in transaction logistics if I ever needed to liquidate a large amount quickly. That said, the potential for a silver squeeze, even a minor one, feels more plausible in the current climate than it has in years.
I'm contemplating shifting to maybe a 70/30 or even a 65/35 split. The idea is to increase my exposure to silver's potential upward momentum without compromising the core stability I rely on from gold. What are others running with these days, especially those with similar portfolio sizes or economic perspectives? Has anyone successfully shifted their allocation more heavily into silver and seen real benefits, or conversely, regretted it?
My Gold IRA provider has been great with the gold side, but I'm curious if folks are seeing similar liquidity and ease of management with larger silver holdings in their retirement accounts. Any thoughts on specific silver products (e.g., Eagles, Maples, bars) that offer the best liquidity for larger allocations? Always appreciate the insights from this community!
