I've been in a Gold IRA for about three years now and honestly, it's been one of the best financial moves I've made. As an accountant here in Atlanta, I really dove deep into the tax advantages and asset protection benefits before jumping in. My portfolio, in total, is sitting around $220k right now, and about $85k of that is in precious metals within my IRA. Initially, I went pretty heavy on gold, like 80/20 gold to silver, which felt right for stability given the market at the time. I currently own a good mix of American Gold Eagles and Canadian Gold Maples.
Lately, though, I've been thinking about re-evaluating that allocation. Silver has been looking pretty attractive, especially with its industrial demand potential. I'm seeing prices that make me wonder if I'm missing out on a bigger upside swing compared to gold. My current silver holdings are mostly American Silver Eagles, and while they're great, I'm considering if it makes sense to bump my silver allocation up to maybe 30% or even 40% of my precious metals. I'm not looking to convert my entire gold stash, but just rebalance future contributions towards silver for a bit.
For those of you who have a significant portion of your portfolio in precious metals within an IRA, what's your current gold-to-silver ratio? Have any of you shifted your allocation recently based on market trends or future predictions? I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who's made a similar shift or decided to stay heavily weighted in gold despite silver's current appeal. Are there any hidden pitfalls I should be considering with a higher silver allocation within an IRA that I might be overlooking from a tax or storage perspective?
