Gold & Silver IRA - Why I diversified (and you should too, maybe)

Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of talk lately about sticking strictly to gold in the IRA. And yeah, I get it. Gold's the OG, the safe haven, the big kahuna. My own Gold IRA has been pretty much all gold for years – been building it up since about 2018 when I started getting serious about retirement beyond just the 401k. Got a good chunk in there, somewhere pushing toward that seven-figure mark with all the contributions and appreciation from good old shiny yellow.
But about a year and a half, two years back, I started looking harder at silver. I’m from Madison, WI, spent my whole career in dairy, so I appreciate a good, practical investment, not just speculative fads. Gold's great for stability, obviously. But silver? Man, it’s got that industrial demand angle that gold just doesn’t. Think about all the tech, solar panels, EV cars – silver is used in so much. It’s not just a monetary metal anymore, it’s a critical component. That really clicked with me.
So, after doing a fair bit of research, talking with my metals dealer (who’s been pretty solid for me, even if they sometimes push a little too hard on premiums), I decided to add a significant silver allocation to my Gold IRA. We're talking something like 15-20% of the total metals value now. It felt like a smart move to diversify away from being entirely gold-dependent. Gold can be slow and steady, but silver has the potential for some bigger swings, both up and down, mind you. But that industrial demand feels like a solid floor, or at least a powerful tailwind.
Honestly, I’ve been pretty happy with the decision so far. It adds a different kind of juice to the portfolio. Anyone else here diversify into silver within their precious metals IRA? Or are you strictly a gold bug, and why? I'm always interested in hearing different perspectives from folks who are actually putting their own money into this.
