Gold Price Volatility Got Me Thinking… My Strategy

Man, these gold price swings lately have been a little wild, huh? I’ve been watching the charts this past week and it feels like a rollercoaster. I just converted a chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA about six months ago – finally pulled the trigger after talking to some buddies in the industry who swore by it. Best decision I've made in a while, honestly. I'm a sound engineer here in Nashville, and while I love my work, the music business isn't exactly known for its stable retirement plans, you know? Seeing those dips and surges makes me a little nervous, but also reinforces why I got into physical gold in the first place.
My initial investment was around $75,000, mostly in American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maples. I know it's not a huge portfolio compared to some, but it’s a big deal for me. I’m thinking long-term here, not trying to get rich quick. I mean, the dollar keeps feeling weaker, and every time I see inflation numbers, I just feel more secure knowing I have some tangible assets. That said, I've been poking around with a couple of those online estimators. Has anyone here used the Gold IRA Calculator on Gold IRA Blueprint? I was playing around with it yesterday to see what my potential returns could look like if gold hits certain benchmarks over the next 5-10 years. It’s pretty enlightening, if a little speculative.
My strategy right now is just to hold. I’m not looking to buy more during these dips or sell during the highs. I understand the arguments for dollar-cost averaging, but I'm comfortable with my current allocation. I’m 48 next month, and this IRA is really about preserving wealth and having a hedge against economic instability for when I eventually scale back from touring. I’m curious, what are others doing with these recent price movements? Are you buying more, sitting tight, or even considering selling some to rebalance?
