Watching the gold spot price jump around these past few weeks has been... interesting. As someone with a good chunk of my retirement in a Gold IRA, primarily in 1oz American Gold Eagles, I'm finding myself checking the charts more often than I probably should. When things were steadily climbing, it was all good. Now with these dips and resurges, I'm feeling that familiar investor twitch. I’ve currently got about 350k allocated to gold and silver across my retirement accounts – primarily gold though, because I lean toward its long-term stability and role as a safe haven asset, especially with all the geopolitical noise lately.
My initial strategy, based on a pretty extensive deep dive into historical data and economic theory (professor habits die hard!), was to hold long-term, essentially buying and largely forgetting about it – aside from annual rebalancing, of course. I'm in Richmond, VA, and I see a lot of folks worried about inflation and market volatility, which just reinforces my initial decision to diversify with precious metals. I'm 45, so I've still got a good 20 years or so until "retirement gold," if you will. The idea was to have a solid hedge against paper currency depreciation and market corrections, not to play the short-term swings.
But when you see something you've invested in fluctuate significantly, it's hard not to question if your "passive" strategy is still the most prudent. I'm not talking about selling, certainly not now. However, I'm wondering if others are adjusting their DCA plans or looking for specific entry points more aggressively? Or are most of you just sticking to your guns, buying dips as they come, and trusting the process? What specific indicators are fellow Gold IRA investors watching that might sway modest adjustments to their accumulation?
