    Hey everyone,

My gold IRA is with Augusta Precious Metals, and I've been pretty happy with them overall. The whole process of rolling over my old 401k a few years back was smoother than I expected, and their client services folks have always been super responsive. They walked me through everything, from selecting the right coins to understanding the tax implications, which was especially helpful since I also teach financial literacy at my school here in Little Rock.

However, I've been looking at my statements since the end of last year, and it feels like the storage fees for my vault storage are ticking up a bit. Currently, I'm paying around $250 annually for my metals, which are safely tucked away in a Delaware Depository facility. My portfolio is sitting between $75k-$80k right now, mostly a mix of American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Gold Maple Leafs. I originally rolled over about $60k back in 2021.

I know these fees are part of the deal with a Gold IRA, especially with segregated storage, but I just wanted to gauge what others are paying. Is $250 about right for a portfolio in this range? Or should I be looking around at other custodians/storage options? I'm not trying to nickel and dime, but as a principal, every dollar counts, and I want to make sure I'm not overpaying for something that's becoming a pretty significant chunk of my retirement savings. What are your experiences?

Glad to hear your experience with Augusta has been good! Super responsive client services are definitely a plus.

You mentioned they walked you through everything – did that include a detailed breakdown of their storage fees right up front, or was that something you had to dig for a bit?

Glad to hear your experience with Augusta has been good! I'm in a similar boat. I went with Fidelity for my Roth IRA and they use Delaware Depository, which I've found to be pretty standard and secure. My fees have been around 0.10% to 0.15% of my holdings annually, which seems to be fairly common for segregated storage. Anything higher than that starts to feel a bit steep.

It's definitely worth checking what kind of storage Augusta offers and how their fees compare. Knowing what's "normal" helps a lot with peace of mind!

Augusta is definitely a solid choice, and it's great you had a smooth rollover! But on the storage fees, "normal" can really depend on what you're looking for. While some people are fine with the flat fees many companies charge, others argue that a percentage-based fee is more equitable, especially if your holdings grow a lot. It's not always about which is cheaper, but which aligns better with your long-term investment strategy. Just something to consider!
