Hey everyone,
My gold IRA is with Augusta Precious Metals, and I've been pretty happy with them overall. The whole process of rolling over my old 401k a few years back was smoother than I expected, and their client services folks have always been super responsive. They walked me through everything, from selecting the right coins to understanding the tax implications, which was especially helpful since I also teach financial literacy at my school here in Little Rock.
However, I've been looking at my statements since the end of last year, and it feels like the storage fees for my vault storage are ticking up a bit. Currently, I'm paying around $250 annually for my metals, which are safely tucked away in a Delaware Depository facility. My portfolio is sitting between $75k-$80k right now, mostly a mix of American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Gold Maple Leafs. I originally rolled over about $60k back in 2021.
I know these fees are part of the deal with a Gold IRA, especially with segregated storage, but I just wanted to gauge what others are paying. Is $250 about right for a portfolio in this range? Or should I be looking around at other custodians/storage options? I'm not trying to nickel and dime, but as a principal, every dollar counts, and I want to make sure I'm not overpaying for something that's becoming a pretty significant chunk of my retirement savings. What are your experiences?
