Hey, just wondering what everyone else is paying for Gold IRA storage fees. I've had my Gold IRA with Augusta Precious Metals for about 5 years now, holding around $350k in a mix of gold and some silver. When I first set it up, the flat fee seemed pretty standard, but I'm thinking about doing a partial rollover from an old 401k later this year and potentially adding another chunk of precious metals, probably bringing my total closer to $500k. Augusta has been great, no complaints about their service or the metals, but I'm starting to wonder if a flat fee is still the most cost-effective option as my account grows.

I'm a manufacturing exec here in Cleveland, and I really value hard assets, hence why I went with a Gold IRA in the first place. My main concern is getting hit with escalating fees if I add significantly more. Some companies charge a percentage, others a flat fee up to a certain value then a percentage. I'm trying to figure out if it makes sense to shop around for a new custodian or if the flat fee I'm paying now is still competitive given the size of my holdings.

What are you guys seeing out there? Are most of you paying a flat annual fee, or is it more common to see a percentage of assets under management? And what kind of percentages or flat rates are you finding reasonable for accounts in the $300k-$500k range? I know a lot depends on the security and insurance, but just looking for some ballpark figures and experiences.

Any insights would be awesome. Thanks!

Yeah, I feel this. I was in a similar boat a few years ago with a different company. Started with a flat fee, which felt fine for my initial investment, but as it grew, I started looking at the percentages and realizing it was getting a bit steep. Ended up switching to a place with a tiered structure that worked out better for my higher holdings. Might be worth exploring if you're feeling the pinch.

Interesting! You mentioned a "flat fee" when you first set it up. Is that still the case, or has Augusta Precious Metals switched to a percentage-based fee for storage since then? Just curious how that compares with what others are seeing.

Interesting. While flat fees can sometimes appeal to larger portfolios, I've always leaned towards a percentage-based model, especially if your holdings are likely to fluctuate. Sometimes a flat fee can feel like you're overpaying if your portfolio dips, whereas a percentage scales with you. Just something to consider if you're looking at different options. Have you crunched the numbers to see how your current flat fee compares to a percentage on your $350k?

Hey, that's a good question to bring up! Storage fees can definitely vary. One thing often overlooked is whether the fee is "segregated" or "commingled" storage. Segregated means your specific metals are kept separate, while commingled means yours are mixed with others of the same type. Segregated usually costs a bit more but offers peace of mind.

For research, I've found Investopedia's Gold IRA company reviews pretty helpful. They usually break down storage options and fees for a few of the top providers, which can give you a good benchmark to compare against Augusta's current rates.

Totally agree with the flat fee vs. percentage point. I went with a percentage-based fee on my first Gold IRA, and as my holdings grew, it started feeling like I was getting dinged harder for just having a successful investment. Switched over to a flat fee setup with Gold Alliance recently for my approximately $280k in gold, and it's been a breath of fresh air. Definitely worth looking into if your portfolio's grown a bit!
