Finally feeling good about my Gold IRA - a decent success story after years of holding (with silver bars too!)

Been lurking here for a while and figured it was time to share. I’ve had a significant chunk of my retirement savings in a Gold IRA for about seven years now, and honestly, for the first five or so, it felt like a total snooze. Coming from the tech world in SF, where things move at light speed and valuations jump overnight, seeing my gold just... sit there... was a real test of patience. Had about $300k initially allocated, split pretty evenly between physical gold coins and some silver bars, mostly 100oz Sunshine Mint or similar.
My tech company buyout was nice, but I saw what happened to some of my friends who went 100% into speculative crypto or even just aggressive growth stocks right before things got choppy. That's what really pushed me into diversifying with precious metals. My financial advisor at the time (who I eventually ditched, long story) basically rolled his eyes at the idea of silver, but I liked the lower entry point and the industrial demand angle. Glad I stuck to my guns on that one. The last couple of years, especially with all the economic uncertainty, have really validated that decision. My portfolio is now closer to $450k and the gold and silver components have played a huge part in that appreciation, acting as a much-needed ballast.
I’ve been using that Gold IRA Calculator lately too, just to sanity check my own numbers and project out hypothetical returns with different performance assumptions. It’s a pretty neat tool for seeing the potential long-term growth without pulling out a spreadsheet every time. While I definitely wouldn't call this a "get rich quick" play, the steady, consistent growth and capital preservation I've experienced have been a massive relief. It makes me wonder, for those of you who've been in PMs for a long time, what was your personal 'aha!' moment that solidified your belief in the asset class?
Thinking about rebalancing soon and potentially adding more silver bars – still super bullish on silver's long-term prospects. Anyone else in a similar boat, feeling like their patience with precious metals is finally paying off in a tangible way?
