Okay, so I've been doing a lot of reading lately, and I'm really starting to wonder if I should bump up my silver percentage in my Gold IRA. Right now, it's probably 80/20 gold to silver, maybe even 90/10. My husband and I are farmers here in rural Missouri, and honestly, the idea of tangible wealth just resonates so much more with us than some numbers on a screen. We put about $65k into our Gold IRA a few years back – felt like the smartest thing we ever did, especially watching the news these days.
I know gold is the cornerstone, the "safe haven," and I totally get that. It's why I went for it in the first place. But it feels like silver has so much more upside potential right now. With all this talk about industrial demand, EVs, solar panels... it just seems like silver is poised for a bigger jump. Gold feels more like steady wealth preservation, which is great, but I'm thinking about maximizing growth too. My portfolio is sitting somewhere around $75k-ish now, and I'm always looking for ways to make that grow without getting into anything too speculative.
My concern is obviously volatility. Silver can swing wildly, and I'm not looking to lose sleep over my investments. We've worked hard for this money. Is increasing my silver allocation to, say, 70/30 or even 60/40 just asking for trouble? I'm not talking about putting all my eggs in one basket, but shifting things a bit. I've only got a limited amount in my IRA, so every decision feels pretty significant.
Anyone here with a similar sized portfolio (or bigger!) who has a strong opinion on their gold vs. silver split? What are your reasons for your allocation? Are there any specific things I should be looking at in terms of market indicators for silver? Just trying to pick some brains because my gut is telling me to buy more silver, but my sensible farmer's wife brain is also saying, don't be impulsive!
