How long does a 401k to Gold IRA rollover actually take?
- •Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger on a full 401k rollover to a Gold IRA, and man, the timeline is kicking my butt a little.
- •I used to be in tech, so I'm used to things moving at lightning speed, but this financial stuff feels like dial-up sometimes.
- •My old 401k had about $380k in it from my previous executive gig.
Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger on a full 401k rollover to a Gold IRA, and man, the timeline is kicking my butt a little. I used to be in tech, so I'm used to things moving at lightning speed, but this financial stuff feels like dial-up sometimes.
My old 401k had about $380k in it from my previous executive gig. I initiated the direct rollover with Augusta Precious Metals about three weeks ago. They've been great on the customer service front, walking me through the paperwork and everything. The custodian (Equity Trust) has received all the necessary docs, and I've even gotten confirmation that the funds from my old 401k administrator (Fidelity) have been disbursed. I'm based in SF, so I'm used to things being efficient here, but now it feels like I'm just waiting for the funds to actually hit the new IRA account so I can finalize the precious metals purchase.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of lag? How long does it typically take from funds being disbursed by the old 401k to them showing up in the new IRA custodian's account and being available for purchasing metals? I'm getting a little antsy because I want to lock in my gold and silver prices, especially with the current market volatility. I'm trying to diversify about 15-20% of my overall portfolio into hard assets, and this feels like the last hurdle.
Any insights or tips on how to potentially speed things along, or just managing expectations, would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!
