Thought I'd share a quick win after years of just… watching. For those who remember my earlier posts, I started my Gold IRA journey about 8 years ago. It felt like a solid move, especially living down here in El Paso where you see firsthand how quickly things can shift, economically speaking, on both sides of the border. I rolled over about $120k from an old 401k into a mix of physical gold and some silver, mostly because my buddy told me to, and it just felt safer than staring at numbers on a screen all day.
For a long time, it felt like it was just… sitting there. Not doing much, to be honest. I’d see my regular stocks going up and down like a roller coaster, and my gold felt like a steady, but boring, rock. I even briefly considered if I'd made the wrong choice, especially when the market was booming. But the last couple of years? Man, things have shifted. With all the global uncertainty, inflation getting spicy, and just seeing how currencies are behaving, my gold and silver holdings have actually started pulling serious weight in my overall portfolio. I'm now looking at closer to $185k in that account, which is a significant chunk of change for my family and the retail business I run here.
It's not just the monetary gain, though that's obviously welcome. It’s the peace of mind. Knowing a good chunk of my retirement isn't tied to the whims of the stock market or some tech giant's quarterly earnings gives me a lot of comfort. I was even playing around with this tool I found the other day, "Silver vs Stocks" at https://silvervsstocks.goldirablueprint.com/?period=10Y, and it really put things into perspective for the last 10 years. It showed me how silver has been doing against the S&P 500, and it was pretty eye-opening. Anyone else looked at that? What are your thoughts on comparing silver directly to the stock market like that?
Anyway, just wanted to share that sometimes the long game really does pay off. It wasn't always exciting, and there were definitely times I doubted it, but sticking with physical metals has genuinely paid off for me here in the 915. Anyone else feel like their patience with precious metals is finally being rewarded?
