Been in the casino world here in Vegas for like, 25 years. Seen more ups and downs than a roulette ball, which means I've pretty much got risk management tattooed on my brain. That's why about five years ago, after watching a few economic dips that felt a little too close for comfort, I started looking into diversifying outside of just stocks and bonds. Ended up putting about $150k into a Gold IRA, mostly American Gold Eagles and some Pamp Suisse bars. It's done pretty well for me, honestly. Not going to lie, it’s not kept pace with the S&P, but the stability is what I was after, and it’s delivered.
Now, I'm starting to seriously think about how this fits into my overall legacy plan for my kids. My son’s just starting college, and my daughter's not far behind. I've always preached to them about not putting all their eggs in one basket, and this gold investment feels like a tangible way to literally give them that basket. My initial thought was to just leave them fractional shares of the IRA, but I’m wondering if there’s a better way to structure things. Has anyone here actually gifted physical gold or structured their Gold IRA in a way that smoothly transitions to their heirs?
I know the tax implications can be a bit of a maze, especially with precious metals. I'm already planning on talking to a financial advisor specializing in estates, but wanted to get some real-world experiences from people who've actually done it. Are there any pitfalls I should be extra aware of? Or maybe some innovative ways you've seen people use gold as a multi-generational asset? I'm not looking for get-rich-quick schemes, just solid, long-term security for my family, especially with all the talk about inflation and whatnot. Any advice or shared experiences would be hugely appreciated!
