Okay, so I'm 28, just bought my first home here in Charleston, and finally starting to get serious about retirement planning beyond just my 401k. I've been doing a ton of research into Gold IRAs lately – the idea of having some tangible assets outside of traditional stocks just feels right to me, especially with how things are looking economically right now.
My question is about minimum investments. I've saved up about $10,000 that I'm comfortable allocating for this initially. I've seen some providers advertise minimums as high as $50k, and others as low as $5k or even $3k. I’m wondering if starting with $10k is even worth it given potential fees, or if I should just keep building up my savings until I hit a higher threshold. My total investment portfolio is probably only around $35k right now, so $10k is a pretty significant chunk for me.
For those of you who started with a similar amount, what was your experience like? Did you feel like the fees ate into your returns too much at that lower entry point? I’ve been reading a lot on the Learning Center which has been super helpful for understanding the basics, but specific anecdotes about starting capital are harder to find. Any advice on companies that are good for lower minimums, or just general thoughts on whether I should wait?
I'm really trying to make smart moves early on, but also don't want to jump into something if it's not going to be effective at this level. Appreciate any insights!
