Finally feeling good about my Gold IRA after years of holding

Just wanted to share a bit of a personal win here for anyone on the fence or feeling discouraged about their gold investments. I'm a military retiree out here in San Diego, and like many of us, financial security is a huge deal for me. I've had a significant chunk of my retirement savings – initially around $250k, now closer to $400k across various accounts – in a Gold IRA for a good 8 years now. For a while there, especially early on, it felt like it was just… sitting. Not losing, but not exactly lighting the world on fire either, you know?
My reasoning back then was purely defensive. I saw the market volatility, the government spending, and just wanted a solid hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. I wasn't looking for overnight riches, but there were definitely moments I questioned if I'd made the right call, especially seeing some of my friends chase those higher-risk, higher-reward stocks. I stuck with it though, kept adding a bit here and there with some of my pension, mostly in 1 oz gold rounds because I liked the tangibility and ease of understanding.
Fast forward to today, and I'm genuinely feeling good about that decision. With all the global unrest and continued inflation pressures, seeing my Gold IRA grow steadily and provide that bedrock of stability in my portfolio is such a comfort. It's not just about the numbers, which are definitely looking better than ever, but about the peace of mind. Knowing a significant portion of my wealth is tied to something so historically resilient, especially after dedicating my life to service, just feels right.
Anyone else feeling this way lately? Or did you have a similar experience where it took a while for your gold investment to really shine for you? Curious to hear other long-term holders' perspectives.
