Just closed a deal today, got me thinking about my own retirement strategy and figured I'd throw this out there. When I was first looking into a Gold IRA a few years back, I was definitely intimidated by some of the minimum investment requirements I was seeing. As an insurance agent here in Omaha, I see all kinds of strategies, but precious metals were a bit new for me personally. I finally pulled the trigger when my portfolio hit around the $150k mark and I felt comfortable allocating a good chunk of that to diversify away from just stocks and mutual funds. I ended up putting in about $35k into my Gold IRA, which felt like a solid amount without overextending myself.
I remember seeing some companies asking for $50k or even $100k minimums, which would have been a non-starter for me at the time. I was aiming for that sweet spot where I could get in without feeling like I was emptying my regular savings, and also not so low that the fees would eat me alive. Ended up finding a firm that was okay with a $25k minimum, which felt much more approachable. It made me wonder if those higher minimums are more about attracting a certain client, or if there's a genuine reason for them.
For those of you who have set up a Gold IRA, what were the minimum investment requirements you encountered? Did you hit a high one right out of the gate, or did you find more flexible options? Did it influence which custodian or dealer you went with? Curious to hear others' experiences, especially if you were in a similar boat trying to diversify your retirement savings without liquidating everything else.
