I’m finally pulling the trigger on a Gold IRA and could really use some insights from folks who’ve been through it. Been eyeing this for a while, especially with all the ups and downs in the market lately. My real estate business here in Miami is doing okay, but I really want to diversify beyond just properties and traditional stocks.
I'm looking to roll over about $150k from an old 401k into a self-directed IRA and then into physical gold. I’m mostly thinking about American Gold Eagles or Canadian Gold Maples. My main concern is finding a trustworthy custodian. I’ve read horror stories about high fees or unresponsive customer service, and frankly, I don’t have the time to chase people down – showings and closings keep me busy enough!
Anyone have recommendations for reputable custodians they’ve had good experiences with? What were the hidden fees you wish you knew about upfront? Also, for those who keep their gold in a depository, any specific ones you prefer or advise against? The idea of having a tangible asset finally feels right for building my retirement nest egg, but the initial setup can feel a bit overwhelming. All advice is welcome!
