Gold IRA Minimums - What I've Learned

Hey everyone, I've been seeing a lot of questions pop up lately about minimum investments for Gold IRAs, and thought I'd share my two cents from my own experience. I started my Gold IRA a few years back, just dipping my toes in, and it's been a really steady component of my diversified portfolio ever since. For anyone new or on the fence, it's definitely something to consider.
When I first started looking into it, I was a bit overwhelmed by the numbers various companies were throwing around. Some places seemed to want you to drop a huge lump sum right off the bat, while others were a lot more flexible. I ended up going with a company that had a $25,000 minimum, which felt manageable for me at the time. I'm a healthcare administrator here in Tampa, so I've got a pretty stable income, but I definitely wasn't looking to liquidate my entire savings all at once. Over time, I've steadily added to it, and I'm now sitting pretty comfortably with over $100k in my Gold IRA, hoping to hit the $250k mark in the next few years.
My advice would be to shop around. Don't just jump at the first company that pops up in a search. Those minimums can vary widely, and sometimes they're negotiable, especially if you show serious interest. It’s also important to differentiate between the dealer's minimum and any actual IRS minimums (which, as far as I know, there aren't really any for contribution amounts to an IRA, just general contribution limits). Are there any hidden fees or higher annual maintenance charges tied to lower initial investments? That's something I wish I'd dug into more deeply upfront.
For those of you who've been through this, what was your initial hurdle regarding minimums? Did you find that companies were willing to budge on their stated requirements, or did you just pick one that fit your budget? I'm always curious to hear other people's experiences!
