Gold IRA for smaller portfolios - which companies did you guys use?
- •Been seeing a lot of chatter lately on the sub about gold IRAs, mostly from folks with pretty substantial allocations already.
- •We're talking maybe $100k-$150k I'd like to roll over to physical.
- •I’m not looking to move millions into bullion, this is more for diversification and inflation hedge for a specific part of my retirement.
Been seeing a lot of chatter lately on the sub about gold IRAs, mostly from folks with pretty substantial allocations already. My personal situation is a bit different – I'm a hedge fund guy here in Greenwich, and while my overall portfolio is in the 7-figure range, my gold allocation, specifically for an IRA, is on the smaller side. We're talking maybe $100k-$150k I'd like to roll over to physical. I’m not looking to move millions into bullion, this is more for diversification and inflation hedge for a specific part of my retirement.
My concern is that some of the bigger players in the gold IRA space probably aren't as interested in accounts of this size, or their fee structures might be disproportionately high. I've heard horror stories about fees eating away at returns for smaller accounts. Does anyone here have experience with specific gold IRA companies that are good for this kind of allocation? I'm looking for solid storage options, transparent fee structures, and good customer service. I don't want to get nickel-and-dimed after making a relatively cautious decision for a portion of my retirement.
I've briefly checked out that Eligibility Checker tool to see if I even qualify, and it looks like I'm definitely in the clear which is a relief. Now it's about finding the right partner. Did anyone else start with a similar amount and have a positive experience with a particular company? Or any red flags to watch out for with companies that claim to be good for smaller investors but actually aren't?
Really appreciate any insights you guys can offer. It’s hard to cut through the noise, especially with all the marketing out there. Just looking for some genuine feedback from people who've actually been through the process.
