Hey everyone, Mark Adams here from Greenwich. Been dabbling in the markets for a while – thirty-five years, to be precise – and seen my share of ups and downs. I’ve always had a soft spot for gold in my personal portfolio, mainly as an inflation hedge and a bit of a diversified safety net. But I wanted to share some recent thoughts and experiences, particularly with my Gold IRA.
With all the chatter about inflation lately, I actually bumped up my Gold IRA allocation a bit last year. Around Q3 2022, when things were looking a bit… frothy, let’s say, I moved about 7% of my overall retirement portfolio into physical gold, specifically through my IRA. My thought process was that if inflation really took off, those paper assets were going to get hammered. And honestly, seeing my savings sitting there doing bugger all in a high-inflation environment was driving me nuts. While it’s not a get-rich-quick scheme, I’ve found that my gold allocation has been a steadying hand in my overall portfolio during these bumpy times and helped me sleep a little easier knowing I have that tangible asset.
My current Gold IRA holdings are weighted primarily towards American Gold Eagles, with some Canadian Maples in there too. I like the liquidity and international recognition of these coins. I’m curious, for those of you who also have gold in your IRA, how are you thinking about your allocations right now? Are you favoring certain types of products? And what’s your take on the current economic climate – are we still in for a bumpy ride, or is the inflation monster finally retreating? Any other hedging strategies you’re employing beyond gold?
It's always good to bounce ideas off each other. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences. Let's keep the conversation going!
