Gold IRA Fees - What Am I Missing?

Okay, so I've been doing a deep dive into Gold IRA fees lately, and honestly, the more I look, the more confused I get. I’ve got about $180k in my retirement portfolio right now, and I’m looking to allocate about 10-15% of that into a Gold IRA for diversification, mainly as a hedge against inflation and market volatility. Being an insurance agent myself, I'm all about risk management, and physical gold just feels right in that mix. My other accounts are pretty standard – 401k from my company, a Roth IRA, and a regular brokerage account, mostly in ETFs and some dividend stocks. I'm 48 and based in Omaha, so definitely thinking long-term here.
The issue is, every company seems to present their fees slightly differently. Some talk about annual maintenance fees, others have setup fees, storage fees (segregated vs. unsegregated, which is a whole other rabbit hole), and then there are transaction costs or markups on the metal itself. It’s hard to do an apple-to-apples comparison when Company A charges a flat annual fee and Company B has a low maintenance fee but higher storage. I’m trying to figure out if it’s better to go with a custodian that has all-inclusive pricing or one that breaks it down.
I’ve plugged a few scenarios into that Retirement Planner tool, specifically the gold IRA section, to see how different fee structures impact my projected growth, and it’s been pretty eye-opening. It really highlights how much even what seems like a small percentage can add up over 10-15 years. My biggest concern is getting hit with hidden fees down the line that weren't obvious upfront. Any Omaha folks here have good experiences with local depositories or recommendations for national companies with transparent fee structures?
Am I overthinking this, or is fee comparison for Gold IRAs genuinely this opaque for everyone else too? What's your experience been like with different custodians regarding fees, and what should I be looking out for most?
