Gold IRA fees - My Experience with Augusta vs. American Hartford (and a question for you all)

Okay, so I've been wrestling with this for a bit and wanted to get some other folks' take. I rolled over a good chunk of my old 401k into a gold IRA a couple of years back – somewhere in the neighborhood of $350k, maybe a bit more now with some growth. I'm based in Salt Lake, and honestly, the thought of having a chunk of my retirement not tied to the stock market's whims has been a huge relief lately, especially with everything going on.
Originally, I went with Augusta Precious Metals. Their educational materials were top-notch, and the whole process felt really transparent. No pushy sales tactics, which I appreciated. Their fees felt reasonable at the time – pretty straightforward all-in annual fee covering storage and administration, usually around $200-$250 for my portfolio size, if I recall correctly. However, a buddy of mine recently moved his larger gold IRA (he’s got maybe $700k in his) to American Hartford Gold, claiming their fee structure was actually better for larger accounts. He’s telling me they waive storage fees for the first few years, which sounds pretty compelling.
My concern is, are these "waived fee" promotions just a hook, and then the fees jump up significantly after the introductory period? I’m also a financial advisor myself, and I help clients set up gold IRAs, but I haven't personally gone deep into a direct comparison of the ongoing fees between Augusta and AHG for my own account yet. It's one thing to compare a prospectus, another to hear real-world experiences. My primary driver for my clients and myself is always long-term value and security, not just the lowest entry point.
Has anyone here had direct experience comparing the annual fees, especially for a rollover of my size, between Augusta Precious Metals and American Hartford Gold after the initial setup period? Or even other companies like Goldco? I'm trying to decide if it's worth the hassle of potentially moving my custodian down the line. I want to make sure I’m getting the best bang for my buck without sacrificing the quality of service or security. Any insights would be super helpful!
