Why I diversified my Gold IRA with some silver holdings

Just wanted to share my recent move and hear if anyone else has done similar. After years of riding strong with just gold in my IRA, about six months ago I decided to funnel about 10% of my annual contributions into silver instead of purely gold. My current IRA is hovering around the $750k mark, overwhelmingly in gold, and I’m 50 and retired military out here in Honolulu, so a good chunk of my wealth is tied up in these metals.
My reasoning isn’t some grand prediction, more of a practical diversification play. I've always viewed gold as my bedrock – the ultimate hedge against currency instability, especially with how things are looking globally from a Pacific perspective. We're seeing a lot of shifting power dynamics, and while gold has always been the king, silver just feels… different. More industrial, more utilitarian. I’m thinking about the growing demand for EV batteries, solar panels, and electronics – all things that rely heavily on silver. It's not just a monetary metal; it's a critical component for future tech. That industrial demand adds another layer of security, in my opinion, beyond just its traditional role as a precious metal.
I know silver can be a lot more volatile than gold, and I’ve seen those swings in the market. But with my golden core being so solid, I felt comfortable taking on a little more risk for the potential upside with silver. It feels like a smart move to capture some of that industrial growth while still having the traditional safe haven of gold. Plus, the price point for silver is still so much more accessible, making it easier to acquire significant quantities if I wanted to.
Anyone else here diversified into silver within their IRA? Or are you sticking purely with gold? What are your thoughts on silver's long-term prospects, especially with the global push towards green energy and advanced tech? I’m always interested to hear different perspectives, especially from folks who’ve been in this space for a while.
