Okay, so I've been with Augusta Precious Metals for about three years now, and overall, I'm pretty happy. My Gold IRA is sitting around $65k right now, and the precious metals themselves are with Equity Trust. Augusta handles all the paperwork and makes sure the actual purchasing is smooth, which is great for me since I definitely don't have time to be micromanaging this stuff. The Equity Trust platform is fine, nothing super fancy, but it gets the job done. I'm a government employee here in Albuquerque, so I'm trying to build up a nice pension supplement, and Gold has felt like a really stable part of that plan.

My main question is around Equity Trust itself. Are there other custodians people have used and really liked? I'm not necessarily looking to jump ship, but I always like to know what else is out there. I've seen some chatter about Advantage Gold or even Birch Gold Group — do they use different custodians? What are their fee structures like compared to Equity Trust?

Sometimes I just feel like I'm a little disconnected from the actual custodian side of things. Augusta is awesome for client service, don't get me wrong, but the actual holding company feels a bit... remote. Maybe that's normal for these things, but I'm curious if anyone has had a truly stellar custodian experience where they felt super in the loop and supported. Especially if you're also in New Mexico, I'd love to hear if you have any local insights or preferences. Thanks for any advice!

Hey, glad to hear Augusta has been working out for you! That's a solid balance for your Gold IRA.

Since you're asking about custodians and seem happy with Equity Trust, a good tip is to always double-check their storage locations and insurance policies. Some custodians offer segregated storage where your metals are stored separately, which can add an extra layer of peace of mind. Just something to keep in mind, especially as your investment grows!

Totally get this! I'm not in NM, but I had a pretty similar experience when I first started looking into a Gold IRA. I was actually with another company that did the "paperwork" side, and my metals were with Equity Trust too! It's a solid setup when the custodian and the metals storage are handled by reputable, separate entities. Glad to hear it's working out for you!

Cool to hear a positive experience with Augusta, always good to get real-world feedback. You mentioned Equity Trust is holding your metals – are they the custodian Augusta recommended, or did you have some flexibility in choosing your custodian?

That's great you're happy with Augusta! For $65k, their fees are probably pretty reasonable. But I've always wondered if those companies that act as a middleman between you and a custodian like Equity Trust are really necessary. Couldn't you just go directly to Equity Trust or another custodian and cut out that extra layer of fees? Just a thought.

Totally agree with you on Augusta! I've had a similar experience, although I went with them a bit more recently, about a year and a half ago. My Gold IRA is around $40k right now, also with Equity Trust for the physical storage. They really do make the whole process super easy and transparent.
