Gold IRA Custodian: Fidelity vs. Equity Trust vs. Kingdom Trust? My experience, looking for others.
- •Okay, so I'm about a year and a half into my Gold IRA journey, and honestly, the custodian part has been the biggest headache.
- •When I first rolled over about $180k from my old 401k into a Precious Metals IRA, I went with Equity Trust at the recommendation of the dealer.

Okay, so I'm about a year and a half into my Gold IRA journey, and honestly, the custodian part has been the biggest headache. When I first rolled over about $180k from my old 401k into a Precious Metals IRA, I went with Equity Trust at the recommendation of the dealer. Their fees seemed okay at first, but lately, it feels like I'm nickel and dimed for every little thing. Plus, their online portal is pretty clunky, and I don't feel like I have a great handle on my statements.
As an accountant out here in Atlanta, I really appreciate the tax benefits of this whole setup, and I'm comfortable with the investment itself (mostly American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maples, for the record). But I'm starting to wonder if I made the right choice with Equity Trust. I'm thinking of transferring custodians, and I've been doing some research.
Has anyone had experience with Fidelity as a Gold IRA custodian? I know they're huge in the brokerage world, but I'm curious about their precious metals specific services. Or what about Kingdom Trust? I've seen their name pop up a few times, and their fee structure looks a little more transparent than what I'm currently dealing with. My main concerns are fee transparency, ease of access to statements/information, and just overall good customer service. I don't need hand-holding, but I also don't want to feel like I'm dealing with a black box.
Any insights or recommendations from people who have actually used these custodians (or others you've been happy with) would be super helpful. What does your fee structure look like? How easy was the transfer process if you switched? I'm trying to avoid another situation where I pick one and then regret it a year later!
