Gold IRA Custodian Experiences? Looking for Richmond-area

I've been looking into rolling over a portion of my 403(b) into a Gold IRA, specifically aiming for around $100k-$150k initially. I'm a professor here in Richmond, and as you can imagine, my pension plan doesn't exactly offer a ton of diversification outside of the standard equities and bonds. I've been doing a mountain of research on the pros and cons of physical metals for a while now, looking at inflation hedges, geopolitical stability, all the usual arguments. I’m convinced enough to pull the trigger on a fairly significant chunk of my portfolio, but now I'm stuck on the actual logistics.
My biggest hurdle right now is picking a reliable custodian. I understand they’re basically the gatekeepers and record-keepers for your metals. I've seen some horror stories online about high fees, poor communication, or even outright shady dealings regarding storage and asset verification. This is why I'm reaching out to this community. I’m looking for experiences, good or bad, with specific custodians.
Has anyone here had a particularly smooth (or bumpy!) experience with a specific custodian? I'm talking about things like transparent fee structures, responsive customer service, ease of setting up the account, and reliable reporting. Also, since I'm in Richmond, Virginia, are there any considerations for storage facilities or general services that might be more convenient for folks on the East Coast, or even better, in the mid-Atlantic? I’m weighing the various options—Brink's, Delaware Depository, etc.—but personal anecdotes are worth a lot more than just brochures.
Given the amount I’m looking to transfer, I really want to get this right. It’s hard enough making these investment decisions, but then having to trust a third party with the actual physical assets adds another layer of anxiety. Any insights, recommendations, or even just warnings about who to avoid would be immensely helpful. Thanks in advance!
