Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger and moved a chunk of my retirement savings (about $75k) into a Gold IRA earlier this year. As a musician in Nashville, most of my investments were pretty standard, and honestly, the market volatility was starting to give me heartburn. I'd been hearing about gold for ages, especially with all the economic uncertainty, and decided to diversify. I went with a company that helped me set up the IRA and choose my metals (mostly rounds, some bars), but I'm looking for feedback on custodians.
My current custodian is... fine. They process everything, send statements, all the basic stuff. But I'm wondering if I'm missing out on a better experience. Are there custodians out there that offer fantastic customer service? Or really streamlined reporting? I'm not a super hands-on investor, but I do like to feel like my assets are in good hands and that if I had a question, getting an answer wouldn't be like pulling teeth. Especially looking ahead to when I eventually have to start taking RMDs – I've been playing around with that RMD Calculator at Gold IRA Blueprint, and it's making me realize I definitely want a seamless process when that time comes.
So, for those of you who've been in Gold IRAs for a while, who do you use as your custodian and why do you like them? Any companies you'd strongly advise against? I'm particularly interested in any Nashville-area investors who might have local recommendations or insights. Is there anything specific I should be looking for in a custodian beyond just basic compliance and security? This is still relatively new territory for me, especially compared to my old 401k, so any wisdom you can share would be awesome.
