Gold IRA newbie pitfalls - wish I knew this starting out!

Okay, so I'm about two years into my Gold IRA journey, and while I'm generally happy with how things are going (sitting around $180k now!), there were definitely some speed bumps early on that I wish someone had warned me about. For context, I'm a marketing exec here in Minneapolis, mid-40s, and really pushing for an early retirement, so every dollar in my portfolio counts.
My biggest "oops" moment was probably not fully understanding the storage fees. I got so caught up in comparing custodians and the upfront purchase price of the gold, that I kinda glossed over the recurring costs. They're not huge, but they definitely eat into your returns over time. Made me realize that even seemingly small percentages can add up, especially when you're thinking long-term like I am. Also, I initially got a bit FOMO-driven with some of the "collector" coins thinking they'd have higher appreciation. Lesson learned: stick to the more common, bullion-grade stuff for the IRA. Premiums for those fancy coins can be brutal and don't always translate to better returns in a retirement account.
Another thing I'd stress for anyone just starting out is really, truly researching your dealer and custodian. I mean, more than just a quick Google search. Look at their fee structures, their reputation, how transparent they are. I almost got swayed by a very charismatic salesperson who was pushing certain products that just didn't feel right for my long-term, conservative strategy. Thankfully, I took a step back and did some deeper digging. What are some other mistakes you all saw beginners make, or even made yourselves? Anything you'd go back and tell your past self?
