Just hit my 5-year mark with my Gold IRA, and thought I'd share an update. I'm sitting down here in Albuquerque, still plugging away as a government employee, and honestly, the stability of this thing is such a relief. I started this IRA to really shore up my pension, especially with all the talk about inflation and economic uncertainty. My initial investment was around $60k, and I've been DCA'ing a bit more in since. I’m up about 30% overall, which isn't going to make me a millionaire overnight, but it's consistent, tangible growth that really helps me sleep at night. No wild swings, just solid appreciation.
I know some folks chase those high-flying tech stocks, but for me, that's just too much stress. I’ve seen enough volatile markets in my lifetime. My primary goal with this portion of my retirement is capital preservation and a hedge against the crazy stuff happening in the world. Being able to physically hold (or rather, know it's being held for me) something of intrinsic value is a big deal. The peace of mind alone is worth a good chunk of that 30%.
It's made me think a lot more about retirement planning in general. I've been using that "Retirement Planner" at retire.goldirablueprint.com tool recently, just plugging in different scenarios to see how things might shake out. It’s been pretty eye-opening in terms of how much more cushion I still need. It helped me visualize how my gold holdings fit into the bigger picture. I'm curious, for those of you who have been in gold for a while, anything you wish you'd done differently early on? Or any tips for someone like me looking to continue building this part of their portfolio?
Overall, I'm really happy with my decision. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme, but for someone looking for solid, long-term growth and security, it’s delivering exactly what I hoped for. My portfolio is probably sitting around the $80-85k mark now, and I’m just going to keep on keeping on.
