Gold hitting new highs – thoughts on what’s next for our IRAs?
- •Well, what a ride the last few months have been for gold!

Well, what a ride the last few months have been for gold! Watching it blow past $2100, then $2200, and now holding strong feels pretty validating after all these years. I’ve had a significant chunk of my portfolio, probably a good 15-20% of my roughly $700k, in physical gold through my IRA for almost 15 years now. Started buying right around the 2008 crash, and honestly, it’s been one of the most consistent performers for me, especially when the market gets choppy.
My old man, bless his soul, always preached about having something tangible when the world goes sideways. Being an old oil and gas guy myself here in Dallas, I’ve seen enough economic cycles to know he wasn’t wrong. Gold has been that tangible bedrock for my retirement. What I’m grappling with now is, do we hold the line, or is this a signal to rebalance a bit? I’ve typically been a 'buy and hold' guy with my gold, letting it sit and provide that hedge.
I’m curious how others are feeling about their allocations. Are you seeing these new highs as a reason to trim some gains and perhaps move into other inflation hedges, or is this just the beginning of a new leg up for gold? I know some folks like to take profits when things hit ATHs, but part of me feels like the macro picture – inflation, global instability, huge government debts – still points to gold having more room to run. I remember people saying it was 'too high' at $1200, then $1500, and here we are.
What’s your strategy right now with your Gold IRA holdings given these new price levels? Are any of you looking to add more, or are you considering lightening your load? Always appreciate hearing different perspectives on this, especially from those who’ve been in the game a while.
