Been seeing a lot of chatter lately about American Gold Eagles versus Buffalos, and figured I'd throw my experience into the ring. As a business owner down here in Savannah, weathering the constant ebb and flow of tourism, I've always viewed gold as a crucial part of keeping my portfolio stable. When I first started really looking into a Gold IRA a few years back – probably around when my portfolio hit the $150k mark – the choice felt pretty overwhelming.
Ultimately, I went with Eagles for the bulk of my investment, mostly because of the historical recognition and the fractional options. It just felt… safer, more liquid if I ever needed to sell off a piece. I've got maybe $60k in gold now, and most of it is in those Eagles. They just have that classic design, and knowing the U.S. government backs the weight and purity gives me a little extra peace of mind, especially when things get squirrely with the economy. I remember feeling a strong need for that stability during 2020 when everything felt like it was going to collapse. diversification is key for me, so I’ve got some silver in there too.
That said, I did pick up a couple of Buffalos recently, mostly for the 24k pure gold aspect. There's something undeniably appealing about that pure gold content, and the design is beautiful. It feels more like a true store of value, stripped of any copper alloy. They were a smaller portion of my buy, maybe around 10k, just to dip my toes in and see how I felt about them long-term. No regrets, but I still lean towards the Eagles for the main stash.
So, for those of you wrestling with the decision, where do you stand? For pure investment and potential easier liquidity, I lean Eagle. For the sheer purity and beauty of the coin, Buffalo has its charm. Anyone else out there in a similar boat, trying to decide what’s best for their Gold IRA?
