Gold doing its thing - holding strong and looking ahead

Thought I'd share some thoughts on the recent gold action. I know a lot of us here are watching the spot price like a hawk, and honestly, with everything going on globally, sometimes it feels like a full-time job. I'm sitting here in Honolulu, watching the news from Asia and the Middle East, and it just reinforces my conviction. My Gold IRA, which is a good chunk of my retirement, probably around $700k of my total portfolio, has been the rock in a pretty turbulent ocean these past few years.
I remember back when I was still active duty, seeing the instability in different regions, and it really drove home the importance of something tangible. Paper money just feels… vulnerable. That's why I went heavy into physical gold within my IRA when I retired a few years back. The past few weeks, seeing gold push towards new highs and then consolidate, it’s not really surprising to me. Every time the global temperature rises a notch, gold responds. It’s not about getting rich quick; it’s about preserving what I’ve got, especially with inflation stubbornly hanging around. My fixed income still doesn't stretch as far as it used to, even here in paradise.
My strategy hasn't changed much over the years: hold strong, dollar-cost average if there's a dip (though those are getting rarer it seems), and view it as long-term wealth preservation. I'm not really looking to trade in and out. This isn't a speculative play for me; it's a foundational piece of my post-service financial security. Seeing the geopolitical landscape from this side of the Pacific, sometimes it feels like the world is constantly on the brink of something. And when that happens, gold tends to shine.
Anyone else feeling particularly affirmed by gold's performance lately? Or are there any contrarian views out there I should be considering? Always open to hearing different perspectives, especially from folks who've been in the game longer than I have. What are your long-term price targets, and what events do you think will be the biggest drivers for the next 12-24 months?
