I've been going back and forth on this one for a while now for my Gold IRA and could really use some input from you all. I'm looking to add some more physical gold to my portfolio, which is currently sitting around the $75,000 mark. Most of that was what my late husband and I had built up over the years, and honestly, protecting that legacy feels incredibly important to me, especially now. I’m in Raleigh, and the local dealers have both, but the premium difference is what’s really making me scratch my head.
On one hand, the American Gold Eagle feels like the classic choice, right? Everyone knows them, and they've got that government backing. I know premiums are usually a bit higher, but is that always worth it in the long run for liquidity if I ever decide to sell? Then you have the Gold Buffalo, which I just love the design of, and it’s pure 24k goodness. The premiums seem a little lower right now from what I'm seeing, but sometimes it feels like a subtle bait-and-switch when you calculate everything out.
I’m trying to decide what makes the most sense from a long-term investment perspective within the IRA. Is the purity of the Buffalo a bigger draw for anyone here? Or does the widespread recognition and fractional options of the Eagle outweigh that? I’m thinking primarily about the 1 oz sizes, but open to hearing about fractional too.
Honestly, this whole precious metals journey has been a learning curve. If any of you are new to the Gold IRA world, I highly recommend checking out that Gold IRA Quiz. It really helped me get a handle on the basics when I first started looking into this a few months ago after talking to a friend. But for now, for those of you who've bought both or have strong opinions, what's been your experience and rationale? Thanks in advance for any insights!
