Holy smokes, gold just blew past $2,150! I've been watching this for a while, ever since I started diversifying my retirement portfolio with a Gold IRA a couple of years back. I dipped my toe in with about $120k at the time, and it's been a pretty wild ride. Most of my career has been in the casino industry here in Vegas, so I understand risk management better than most, but even I'm a little surprised at how fast this has moved.
My initial thought process was purely defensive – wanted some stability against inflation and market volatility. I've seen enough economic downturns to know you can't always trust traditional assets. My financial advisor back then actually suggested a mix of physical gold held in an IRA, and a small portion in a few gold mining stocks. That second part hasn't done quite as well as the physical, but it’s still holding its own. Now that gold's at these insane levels, I'm trying to figure out what the smart play is.
Are we looking at a sustained rally here, or is this just a spike before a correction? Part of me wants to lock in some of these gains, maybe rebalance a bit if the mining stocks catch up. But then I think about all the geopolitical instability, the Feds' hints about interest rates, and it feels like gold could just keep climbing. What are you guys doing if you're holding substantial gold assets? Are you selling off any positions, or just letting it ride?
Also, anyone have thoughts on gold companies specifically? With the price of the commodity this high, it feels like the miners should be printing money. But their stock performances haven't always matched the metal's trajectory. Is there a particular sweet spot for entry or exit with these companies? Or is it still just safer to stick with the physical?
