Been thinking a lot about inflation lately, especially with how unpredictable things have been since the pandemic. For those of us running businesses, particularly in agriculture here in Fresno, rising costs for everything from fuel to fertilizer hit hard and fast. My Gold IRA has been a significant part of my strategy to protect my assets, and honestly, I'm feeling pretty good about it.
I started investing in physical gold through an IRA back in 2018. Had about $75k in there to begin with, mostly because I just don't trust keeping all my eggs in the stock market basket. Being in farming, I've always been drawn to tangible assets – something you can hold, something that's had value for thousands of years. Stocks are great, but when the market gets volatile, or when the dollar starts looking shaky, gold feels like a much more solid bet. For me, it's not about making a quick buck, it's about preserving what I've worked for.
Now, with inflation hitting numbers we haven't seen in decades, watching my gold holdings climb has been a relief. It's not just a theoretical hedge; I've seen it in action. My portfolio, combined with some of my other investments, has kept pace with or even outpaced some of the general inflation I'm seeing. It makes me wonder if more people should be seriously considering it. What are some of you doing to specifically counter inflation these days? Other than gold, are there other assets you've found really hold their value when the dollar weakens?
I'm curious to hear from others who are actively using gold as an inflation shield. Are you looking at silver too? I've mostly stuck with gold, but occasionally think about diversifying into silver. Any thoughts on the best way to structure an IRA with both, or if one is generally preferred over the other for inflation protection?
