Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger on getting a chunk of my old 401k rolled over into a Gold IRA. Been meaning to do this for ages, especially with all the market volatility lately. My dad’s always been big on tangible assets, and frankly, looking at how things are going, it just feels like a smarter play for long-term wealth preservation. We're talking probably a good $200k out of a larger fund, just to diversify a bit.
I initiated the whole process about three weeks ago through Augusta Precious Metals, who came highly recommended by a few family friends. Everything seemed straightforward enough – filled out the paperwork, got the Docusigns done, confirmed the direct rollover. They were super responsive initially, guiding me through linking up with the custodian, Equity Trust Company. But now it feels like I'm just… waiting. Waiting for the money to actually leave my old 401k (a Fidelity account, if that matters) and hit the new IRA account with Equity Trust. Augusta says everything's in motion, but “in motion” isn’t exactly a comforting answer when you’re talking about six figures of your retirement savings.
I keep picturing those gold bars sitting in a vault instead of some abstract number in a brokerage account. I’m not exactly strapped for cash, thanks to some fortunate timber sales over the years, but I’ve always been taught to keep a close eye on my investments. Is this normal? What kind of timeline did everyone else experience for their 401k to Gold IRA direct rollovers? I was expecting maybe two weeks, tops, not this drawn-out affair. Starting to get a little antsy here in Spokane.
Anyone dealt with Fidelity or Equity Trust specifically? Or is this just the general pace of the beast? Any tips on how to politely push things along without sounding like a total maniac? Just want to make sure my assets are where they need to be, especially with the way the dollar has been looking. Any advice would be appreciated.
