Finally seeing some real upside with my gold coins, feeling good!

    Key Takeaways
    • Been meaning to post this for a while but honestly, life gets in the way.
    • Started buying seriously back around 2010-2012 when I retired from the dairy business after 35 years.
    • Seemed like a solid, no-nonsense move, something my grandpa would've appreciated.

Been meaning to post this for a while but honestly, life gets in the way. For all us gold bugs out there, especially those who've been stacking for years and probably felt a bit like we were shouting into the void sometimes – seeing some nice green in my portfolio finally feels validating. I've had a decent chunk of my retirement savings (we're talking probably around 15-20% of my total portfolio, so let's say about 100-150k invested in physical gold through an IRA) in gold coins for ages. Started buying seriously back around 2010-2012 when I retired from the dairy business after 35 years. Seemed like a solid, no-nonsense move, something my grandpa would've appreciated.

For a long time, it was just... there. Like reliable old Holstein, always steady, never flashy. Didn't move much, didn't lose much, just kind of sat. My financial advisor back then, bless her heart, wasn't exactly thrilled but understood I wanted some true diversification. Didn't touch it, just kept it tucked away. But man, the last couple of years have been a different story. It's actually contributing meaningfully to the growth now, not just acting as a hedge. I'm seeing real gains, not just inflation protection. It's nice to see my conviction pay off, especially after all those years of holding.

I'm mostly in Eagles, some Canadian Maples, and a few Krugerrands. Nothing fancy, just the standard stuff. Bought at various price points over the years, dollar-cost averaging before I even knew what that term meant. Just bought when I had extra cash and felt like it was a good time. Now with things feeling so weird economically, it's a huge comfort to know that part of my nest egg is doing so well. It honestly feels like a weight off my shoulders, living here in Madison and seeing everything go up - property taxes, groceries, everything. This gold boost makes retirement feel a lot more secure.

Anyone else feeling this jump? What's your story been like? Are you considering taking some profits or just letting it ride? Curious to hear what others are doing.

Hey, that's awesome you're seeing some good returns! Gotta say though, I'm personally less about the short-term "green" and more about gold as a long-term wealth protector. The real validation for me isn't a quick jump, but knowing it's there as a hedge against inflation and market craziness down the line. Different strokes for different folks, I guess!

Dude, I completely get this. Felt the exact same way a few years back when I decided to shift some of my 401k to a Gold IRA. For the longest time it just sat there, doing its thing, but nothing to write home about. Then BAM, things started ticking up and it's been a sweet ride ever since. Totally validating, like you said!

That's awesome to hear! Always great when patience pays off. When you say "gold coins," are we talking primarily bullion coins like Eagles or Maples, or do you also have a good portion of numismatics in there?

That's awesome to hear! Always great when the patience pays off. Just a friendly tip – if you're looking to diversify within your precious metals, don't forget about platinum and palladium. They can offer some interesting opportunities and often move differently than gold and silver. There are some good resources out there like Kitco or JM Bullion that offer regular market updates on all four, might be worth a look!

Totally feel this! I've been holding gold coins for a while now too, and it's definitely nice to see them finally getting some love. My 2018 Eagles have been particularly good to me lately. Glad to hear you're seeing some green too, my friend!
