Been a while since I posted, but I wanted to share a bit of a milestone. Just hit my 10-year anniversary with my Gold IRA, and for the first time, I'm truly feeling the weight of that decision pay off in a big way. I remember back in 2014, when I first started looking into diversifying outside of the typical stocks and bonds. Had just retired from the Navy as an Admiral, and while my pension was secure, I wanted something tangible, something that felt like a true long-term hedge against the unpredictable economic tides. Virginia Beach has a lot of defense contractors and folks with solid pensions, and I saw a lot of them just sticking to the same old portfolios. I wanted more.
My initial investment was modest for someone with my portfolio size, about $250k, but I’ve been adding to it consistently over the years. Nothing crazy, just dollar-cost averaging when I saw opportunities. For a long time, it felt like it was just… there. Not exciting, not huge gains, but steady. A lot of my friends kept asking why I wasn't putting that capital into tech or real estate, and I'll admit, there were moments of doubt. But my discipline, honed over decades of service, kept me focused on the long game. I'm looking at my current valuation, and it’s well over $600k now. More than doubled my initial stake, and I'm really starting to feel good about having that bedrock in my portfolio.
I was just playing around with the Gold IRA Calculator on Gold IRA Blueprint to project out another five years, and the numbers are honestly pretty remarkable. It's a solid tool if you haven't used it. Made me realize just how much compounding can do, even with what feels like a slower, more deliberate asset. Anyone else in a similar boat, just patiently holding their gold and starting to see that disciplined strategy pay dividends? What’s your timeline been like?
