Finally rolled over some of my 401k to gold. Wish I did this sooner!
- •I’ve probably got around $350k in my overall portfolio right now, and about $200k of that was sitting in my old 401k from my last job.
- •The process was actually way smoother than I expected.
- •My advisor basically handled all the paperwork with the custodian, and I just had to sign a few things.
Okay, so I’ve been watching the Fed and inflation numbers pretty closely living here in Salt Lake City, and honestly, it’s made me pretty nervous about having all my eggs in the traditional stock market basket. My financial advisor, who specializes in helping folks here diversify into precious metals, has been nudging me for a while to seriously consider a Gold IRA. I’ve probably got around $350k in my overall portfolio right now, and about $200k of that was sitting in my old 401k from my last job.
After a lot of back and forth, and seeing some of the volatility lately, I finally pulled the trigger and did a direct rollover of about $75k from that 401k into a new Gold IRA. The process was actually way smoother than I expected. My advisor basically handled all the paperwork with the custodian, and I just had to sign a few things. It felt good to actually see that physical gold (well, the certificate at least) as part of my retirement plan, rather than just abstract numbers on a screen.
I know some people are skeptical about gold, but for me, it was less about trying to get rich quick and more about protecting my purchasing power and having a hedge against the kind of economic uncertainty we’re staring down right now. It really helps me sleep better at night knowing that a good chunk of my retirement isn't entirely dependent on the whims of the stock market. With all the talk of de-dollarization and geopolitical shifts, it just feels like the smart move for long-term stability.
Anyone else here in a similar boat, or have you done significant rollovers into precious metals recently? How are you feeling about your portfolio’s allocation now? Would love to hear other people’s experiences and perspectives.
