Been meaning to post about this for a while, especially after seeing a few posts about diversifying out of just stocks. So, I finally pulled the trigger and rolled over my old 401k from a previous job into a Gold IRA. I’ve still got my current 401k going, but for that older one, I really wanted to get some physical assets in the mix.
I work as a secretary for one of the big oil companies here in Tulsa, and honestly, a lot of the execs I chat with (you pick up a lot just listening!) have been quietly moving some of their wealth into precious metals for years. It got me thinking, especially with all the talk about inflation and economic uncertainty. My portfolio was sitting around the $150k mark in that old 401k, and it felt too concentrated in the market. The peace of mind just having something tangible, something that’s been valued for centuries, is a huge relief.
The rollover process itself was surprisingly straightforward. I picked a reputable company after doing a ton of research – mostly online forums like this, honestly, and checking BBB ratings. They handled almost everything, from talking to my old custodian to facilitating the purchase of the gold. I went with a mix of American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maples, just for a little variety. It took about three weeks from start to finish, which felt pretty efficient.
Anyone else here in a similar boat, or thinking about doing a rollover? What were your biggest concerns going into it, and how did you alleviate them? I’m feeling pretty confident about the decision, but always curious to hear other perspectives.
