Been lurking on this sub for a while, soaking up all the wisdom, and I've finally done it. After years of having a significant chunk of my retirement just sitting in traditional investments, I've officially initiated the process to roll over about $150,000 into a Gold IRA. Honestly, I'm feeling a mix of relief and a tiny bit of nerves, but mostly excitement. As a business owner here in Savannah, I've seen enough economic ups and downs to know that diversification truly matters, especially when your income stream can be cyclical based on tourism seasons. My business has been good, but you never know what's around the corner.
My strategy for this Gold IRA is pretty straightforward: I'm aiming for stability and protection against inflation. With all the money printing and geopolitical rumblings lately, it just feels like the smart move to have a tangible asset backing a good portion of my retirement. I'm focusing primarily on gold American Eagles and Canadian Maple Leafs for the recognizable premium and liquidity. I've also been eyeing some platinum, but decided to hold off for now and just stick to the tried and true gold for this initial rollout. I’m thinking long-term, definitely not looking to touch this for at least 10-15 years, probably more like 20 until I'm ready to properly wind down the business.
The company I went with seems solid – good reviews and their reps were super patient with all my questions (and trust me, there were a lot). The paperwork was a beast, but worth it for the peace of mind. For others who've gone through this, what was your experience like after the initial rollout? Did you find yourself adding more over time, or was your initial allocation sufficient for your strategy? Any surprises along the way I should be aware of?
Anyway, just wanted to share my update and be more of a participant rather than just a lurker. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.
