Finally pulled the trigger on silver for my IRA, here's why.
- •Been debating this for a while now, but I finally pulled the trigger and added a significant chunk of silver to my Gold IRA this past month.
- •My IRA, specifically, had been 100% gold for years – I'm talking a heavy allocation, well into seven figures.

Been debating this for a while now, but I finally pulled the trigger and added a significant chunk of silver to my Gold IRA this past month. Always been a gold guy, as most of my long-term holdings (outside of real estate and a few businesses) are in physical gold or gold-backed assets internationally. My IRA, specifically, had been 100% gold for years – I'm talking a heavy allocation, well into seven figures. The Gold IRA quiz at https://quiz.goldirablueprint.com/?forum actually helped me kind of re-evaluate my overall strategy, funny enough.
My thinking for so long was gold is the ultimate safe haven, uncorrelated, etc., which I still believe, but looking at the current gold-to-silver ratio made me pause. It just felt like silver was so undervalued relative to gold right now. I'm not looking for a quick buck here; this is for retirement, obviously. But the industrial demand narrative for silver, especially with the push for renewables and electronics, just seems incredibly strong long-term. Even if things get rocky, that demand isn't going away. Gold will always be king for wealth preservation, but silver feels like it has more upside potential from these levels.
The whole process with my custodian was smooth. Had to move some funds around from existing gold holdings, which felt a little weird at first, like I was betraying my gold stacks! But seriously, the diversification within the precious metals basket just feels right for my portfolio now. I'm sitting on a decent amount of physical silver too, but having it in the tax-advantaged account just rounds things out. For those of you with substantial precious metals IRAs, what's your current gold-to-silver allocation like? Anyone else feeling like silver is poised for a breakout?
