After a good few years of just stacking gold in my IRA, I finally took the leap and diversified into silver. For context, I've got a decent chunk, around $180k invested, mostly in gold coins and bars that I rolled over from my old 401k. Being a military contractor here in Jacksonville, security and stability are pretty much my prime directives, both professionally and personally when it comes to finances.
I know the purists often say "gold only" for IRAs, but with everything going on in the world – inflation, supply chain wobbles, and just general geopolitical jitters – I started looking harder at silver. The industrial demand for silver is just insane, and it feels like it’s becoming more and more crucial for so many emerging technologies. Plus, let's be real, the entry point for silver is way more accessible than gold right now. It made sense to balance out the portfolio a bit.
I ended up adding about $30k worth of silver to the mix. Went with a variety of American Silver Eagles and some Canadian Maple Leafs. Did a ton of research, talked to my IRA custodian, and felt comfortable with the premiums. It feels good to have that extra layer of physical asset diversification. Anyone else out there primarily a gold bug who eventually brought silver into their IRA? What swung your decision?
