Finally pulled the trigger on a Gold IRA - my wife kept bugging me!

Okay, so after months (and I mean MONTHS) of my wife bringing this up every other day, I finally opened a Gold IRA. For context, I’ve been in the casino industry out here in Vegas for like 20 years. I’m comfortable with risk, understand market movements, and honestly, always saw gold as a bit of a boomer play. My portfolio is usually a mix of ETFs and some higher-growth tech stocks, sitting somewhere around the $200k mark currently.
My wife, bless her heart, has been all-in on gold for the last year. She watches all these YouTube channels, reads the newsletters – you name it. Her personal pitch wasn't about doomsday, which I appreciated. It was more about stability and diversification. She kept saying, "Look, with all the federal spending, inflation is coming, and your tech stocks, while great, are volatile. Just put 10% in gold, what's the big deal?" She even started showing me charts comparing gold's performance during past inflationary periods. Honestly, a pretty compelling argument for someone who usually just trusts my judgment on investments.
So, I finally caved last week. Ended up putting about $25k from my existing IRA into physical gold rounds. The process was smoother than I expected, though there was a bit of paperwork. It feels weird and kinda liberating at the same time to have some tangible assets outside of all the digital stuff. Plus, my wife is absolutely thrilled, which definitely counts for something! She even suggested we take a trip to actually see the vault where it's stored someday – LOL.
Anyone else have a spouse or family member who really pushed them into precious metals? What was their 'killer argument'? And for those who've been in Gold IRAs for a while, any tips or things you wish you knew when you started?
