After a lot of back and forth, I finally decided to diversify my Gold IRA with some silver. For years, I’ve been almost exclusively focused on gold coins – mainly American Gold Eagles – and while I still believe in gold's long-term stability, something felt off about having all my eggs in one basket, even if it was a golden one. My portfolio is sitting somewhere in the mid-$80k range, and honestly, the thought of leaving that much capital tied up in just one metal, no matter how precious, started to gnaw at me.
My biggest motivation was the price action. Gold has been a rockstar, no doubt, but silver just seems to have so much more room to run, especially with all the industrial demand. Living in Boise, and being involved in local government (yeah, I’m the mayor of a little town nearby), I see firsthand how important manufacturing and tech are becoming. That makes me feel even more confident about silver's future. It’s not just a monetary metal; it’s a critical component for so many things we use daily.
I ended up allocating about 15% of my IRA into silver, primarily in American Silver Eagle coins. It just felt like a natural fit alongside my gold. I worked with my custodian, and the process was pretty smooth, thankfully. I’m really hoping this move beefs up my IRA’s potential for growth, especially if silver catches fire like some analysts predict. It also feels good to have that extra layer of diversification in case gold has a stagnant period.
Has anyone else here recently added silver to their Gold IRA for similar reasons? Or maybe you’ve had it in there all along? I'm curious to hear what other metals people are considering or if anyone has a different perspective on the gold vs. silver balance in an IRA.
