Man, what a relief. After 15 years religiously stacking in my Gold IRA, I finally hit that magic number I set back in '09. Rolled over another chunk from my old 401k a few months back – the one I had from my drilling days before I switched over to the corporate side here in Dallas – and that pushed me comfortably over the million-dollar mark in physical gold. Yeah, it’s not all in gold, but a significant portion of my overall portfolio. That feeling of staring at the quarterly statement and seeing that number is pretty damn satisfying, especially considering all the market churn we've seen since the financial crisis.
I remember friends and family thinking I was nuts back then, selling off some stocks to buy into precious metals. "It doesn't pay dividends!" they'd say, or "It's a relic!" Yeah, well, those relics are looking mighty shiny now, aren't they? I've seen enough booms and busts in the oil patch to know that diversification isn't just a buzzword, it's how you survive. For me, that meant gold in a big way. The peace of mind knowing a substantial portion of my retirement isn't tied directly to the whims of the stock market or some tech startup is invaluable as I get closer to pulling the trigger on retirement.
It wasn't always a smooth ride, don't get me wrong. There were definitely periods where gold felt like it was stuck in quicksand. But I just kept doing my thing, dollar-cost averaging into the Gold IRA, and letting the fear-mongers scream into the void. This last rollover sealed the deal for me, and I’m genuinely feeling pretty confident about the next decade. Anyone else hit a similar milestone recently? How are you guys feeling about your allocations right now, especially with the current economic climate?
Thinking about doing a bit more research into palladium next, but that's a whole other can of worms. For now, I'm just enjoying the view from here. Keep stacking, folks.
