Holy smokes, guys. Just ran the numbers for end of Q1 and it's official: my Gold IRA, combined with my physical holdings, just crossed the eight-figure mark. Eight figures. Never in a million years did I think I'd get here, especially when I started dipping my toes into gold back in '08 when everyone else was screaming about real estate crashes.
I remember the early days, pouring over articles, trying to figure out if it was a scam or not. Decided to start small with about 5% of my portfolio in physical, just dipping my toes in the water. Gradually ramped it up, especially after seeing the market volatility in 2011-2012. My Gold IRA really started picking up steam when I began rolling over old 401ks that were just sitting stagnant, losing value year after year. The peace of mind knowing a significant chunk of my retirement wasn't tied to the speculative whims of the stock market was actually a huge motivator for me to work harder and grow my businesses here in Scottsdale.
There were definitely times I questioned it, especially when gold had its lulls. Friends would tell me I was crazy, that it was a "barbarous relic" and I should be all-in on tech stocks. But something just felt right about tangible assets. Something about owning something that has held value for millennia, not just based on market sentiment. And honestly, watching the purchasing power of the dollar erode over the last few years, especially with all the money printing, makes me feel like I made the right call.
So, here I am, 52 years old, with options I never thought I'd have. Thinking about really cutting back on the business grind and focusing on some passion projects, maybe even spending more time volunteering. For those of you just starting out, or even considering adding gold to your portfolio, what were some of your biggest 'aha!' moments that convinced you to go all in (or at least significantly in)? Curious to hear other success stories or even just what drove your conviction.
